Principal loses increment for charging fee from SC/ST students
Ranchi, July 21 (UNI) The Ranchi University (RU) has stopped two increments of the pricipal of Ranchi Womens College in connection with a case relating to charging fees from the students of schedule tribe, schedule caste and other backward class category.
With this the court today dropped a contempt proceeding initiated against the RU registrar and the pricipal.
The RU authorities took the decision in accordance with the direction earlier passed by the Jharkhand High Court.
The RU registrar today informed the court that the fees which was charged by Principal Manju Sinha during her stint as principal of Graduate School for Womens at Jamshedpur had been given back to the students.
The court had directed the RU to file show-cause reply of a petition filed by Public Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), a voluntary organisation.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice S J Mukhopadhaya and Justice M Y Eqbal passed the order while hearing a contempt petition filed by PUCL.
The PUCL alleged that the principal had taken fees from the students who come under the reserved category which was violation of state government's policy.
According to a state government policy it will provide free education to the students belonging to reserved categories.
Earlier, the court had directed the registarar RU to take action against the erring officer but he failed to comply with the order.
Then the PUCL filed contempt petition and informed the court that the order of the court was not being complied with by the registrar.
