Police questioned 4 persons in Sacchidanand's ashram attack case

Anand, Gujarat, July 21 (UNI) Police today questioned four persons in connection with the attack on the ashram of Swami Sacchidanand at Dantali village, 25 kms from here in the early hours of July 17.

In the attack four people were injured.

District Superintendent of Police (DSP) D S Jebaliya told UNI that today police questioned four people - Jeetu Patel, a resident of Anand, Parmod Joshi, Chandrakant Patel and Indubhai Gandhi, all three residents of Vadodara - for their alleged roles in the attack.

Mr Jebaliya said, Jeetu and Pramod have been sent to FSL (forensic science laboratory), Ahmedabad for lie-detector tests.

On July 17, miscreants first pelted stones at the ashram and attacked several members, before rushing to the first floor where the Swami's room was located.

However, the Swami who woke up due to the commotion, had pulled out his pistol and opened fire on the attackers. But, all of them managed to flee except one, who incurred a bullet injury.

Ashram sources alleged that the attackers would be 'Swadhyaya parivar' members.

The Swami had publicly criticised the parivar in his meeting after the murder of NRI Panjak Trivedi in Ahmedabad on June 15. He had also voiced fears that he would also be attacked.

Security measures have been tightened in the area and blockades have been imposed on roads leading out of Dantali.

Swami Sachidanand said, he had been getting threatening letters for sometime but had not lodged any complaint with the police, as those had become ''petty routine.'' UNI RP-MP MJ YA KN2147
