Pak immigrant gets 30-year jail term for aiding al-Qaeda man
New York, July 21 (UNI) A Pakistani immigrant convicted of helping al-Qaeda has been sentenced to a 30-year imprisonment.
Uzair Paracha was convicted nine months ago in Federal District Court in Manhattan. He was charged with attempting to aid Majid Khan, a member of al-Qaeda, to get forged document so that he could travel to the United States in 2003.
According to a testimony and the US Justice Department, Khan and his accomplice had plotted to bomb underground storage tanks at petrol stations in the state of Maryland Paracha, 26, apparently impersonated Khan and also used his credit card.
This was to give an impression that Khan had still been based in the United States. In fact he had already gone to Pakistan without notifying the immigration officials.
