Monsoon blesses eastern UP, Sharda about to touch danger mark

Lucknow, July 21 (UNI) Even as rain gods continue to bless Eastern region of Uttar Pradesh, Sharda river is just 2 cm away from the danger mark.

Allahabad received maximum rainfall at 8 cm, followed by Mathura 7 cm, Chillaghat 6 cm, Rae Bareli 4 cm, Jaunpur 4 cm, while Varanasi 3 cm, weatherman said.

Medium to heavy downpour accompanied by thundershowers is forecast for the next 24 hrs.

A report from Gorakhpur said high humidity and temperature have made life highly uncomfortable for people.

The farmers, who had heaved a sigh of relief following the gap in monsoon are now posed with problem, as in the wake of no rainfall, the prospects of good crop are bad.

Central Water Commission (CWC) said all prominent rivers including Ghagra, Sai, Gomti and Rapti were rising along their course, but are still below the red mark.

Meanwhile, the toll in rainfall related incidents climbed to 103 following 18 fresh deaths in the last 24 hrs.

Lightning killed six people in Sant Ravidas Nagar and Jhansi districts.

Meanwhile, 12 people including four children died and three others severely injured when their houses collapsed in Varanasi, Chandauli, Banda and Pratapgarh districts.
