Martyrs remembered at MEG
Bangalore, July 21 (UNI) As many as 31 soldiers belonging to the Madras Sappers, one of the oldest formations in the country's armed forces who died while in service, were remembered at a solemn ceremony held at the Madras Engineering Group here.
The next of kin of the martyrs were presented with a sum of Rs 30,000 each and a Badge of Sacrifice by Adjutant General Et Gen A S Jamwal, It was a moving sight when widows of the brave soldiers, some of them in tears, walked up to the dais to receive the cheques.
The widow of Havildar Basavanappa Kumbar, who succumbed to gun shot wounds while fighting terrorists in Kashmir, and the father of Sapper C S Pramod, who died while clearing a snow bound route in the Drass sector in Kashmir, were among the recipients.
Brig A S Chand, Commandant of MEG and Centre, several senior serving and retired officers and soldiers were present on the occasion.
