Jaswant's book to cover up NDA Govt's misrule: Cong

New Delhi, July 21 (UNI) Having a dig at former External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh for writing an autobiography,the Congress today said he appears to have turned an author to cover up his own and the then BJP-led NDA Government's failures and its five years of misrule.

"Mr Jaswant Singh has specialised in making selective disclosures without giving details, wasting lakhs of words, but leaving many questions unanswered," Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said.

Briefing newsmen here, Mr Singhvi asked why Mr Jaswnt Singh went to Kandahar escorting the terrorists. If his explanation was that by being there he wanted to ensure that he could take care of any last minute development in Kandahar, then he could have done that from the Indian soil, with the fast means of communciation available now.

"It was not only possible but preferable,'' he said.

Mr Jaswant Singh has not answered this question but wasted lakhs of words describing the incident, he added.

Mr Singhvi wondered why the hijacked Indian Airlines plane was allowed to take off from Amritsar and why a request was made to Pakistan to allow flying the plane over Pakistan to Kandhar. Any negotiation in this regard would have been far beter from the Indian soil, he said.

"Mr Singh believes in self serving political disclosures of selective kind," he alleged.

Referring to Mr Singh's allegation that former Prime Minister Nasimmha Rao's PMO had an American mole who compromised India's nuclear secrets, Mr Singhvi said this disclosure had been made ten years late much after Mr Rao's demise, so that there is none to contradict it.

Mr Jaswant Singh, he said, had stated that the so-called mole was present even today. "Then what did the NDA do till 2004 to expose this so-called mole, "he asked.

By knowing him and not revealing his identity,he is an abettor to a crime, guilty of the charge of national betrayal, "Mr Singhvi said. UNI YS SK PC1847
