India-Windies ODI series in Canada scrapped

New Delhi, July 21 (UNI) With the Canada Cricket Association (CCA) putting up its hand, the India-West Indies ODI series, slated in Toronto in September, has been scrapped.

BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah told UNI over phone that the series was scrapped after CCA expressed its inability to host the event this year even though he said the series was very much on.

''They have informed us that they are not ready yet to host the event. They are not being able to arrange all the facilty and as a result, we have no other way left but to defer it,'' he said.

''In fact you can't say it has been called off because it was not confirmed in the first place. We are thinking of hosting it some time next year. It has not been shelved,'' he added.

BCCI is considering Holland, Singapore and Malaysia as alternative venue to keep its promise of playing the ODI series with the West Indies.

The series was always under a cloud of doubt following media reports that the West Indies Players' Association was planning to boycott the event because, they claimed, the Caribbean cricket board had not informed the players about the series.
