Dalmiya to contest CAB polls
Kolkata, July 21 (UNI) Incumbent CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya today filed his nomination for fighting the state association polls, slated for July 30.
His contender for the post City Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee already filed his nomination yesterday.
Talking to UNI, Mr Dalmiya said, ''I had almost decided not to stand but all the 54 senior members of CAB were unanimous that I should contest the polls for retaining the post.'' ''They were unanimous in their stand and even said they would not come to CAB again if I did not contest. I had to give in to their love and faith in me,'' he said.
Incidentally, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, through Sports Minister Subhas Chakrabarty, had asked Mr Dalmiya to step aside making way for Mr Mukherjee.
The veteran cricket administrator further became cornered due to the pressure tactics of the BCCI.
However, it became evident that Mr Dalmiya would contest the poll when Mr Chakrabarty said yesterday that negotiations to break a common ground between the two parties had failed.
