Commission to review environmental sector policies

Gangtok, Jul 21 (UNI) The Sikkim government has instituted a Commission to review Social and Environmental Sector Policies, Plans and Programmes (CRESP) with Prof B K Roy Burman as Chairman.

The other members of the Commission were Mr D N Takarpa (Speaker), Mr D T Lepcha (Minister for Labour) and Mr K N Rai (Minister for Rural Management and Development), Mr C B Tripathi, Prof A K Danda and Mr Sanjay Upadhyaya.

The Commission will consider larger social, economic and environmental aspects of Sikkim and review the inclusion of certain communities of Sikkim as Scheduled Tribes. This will be done while taking care of food, environmental and human securities.

The Commission will hold its meeting on July 22. The Sikkim government had invited some members of the civil society to be present on the occasion and to make their presentation before the Commission.
