Business in SBI, J

Srinagar, July 21 (UNI) Customers of the State Bank of India (SBI), Jammu and Kashmir Bank (JKB) and other financial institutions, besides two national news agencies were again on the receiving end today due to internet failure since this noon.

Business activities in the (SBI) and JKB and other financial institutions in the Kashmir valley remained paralysed due to internet failure.

The customers, particularly, the business community were at the receiving end as the banks refused to entertain any cheque or Demand Draft or cash because of system failure.

''We have been facing the problem of system failure almost every day, affecting the business activities,'' bank officials said.

On July 12, July 14 and again on July 19 the system remained down affecting normal bank activities, they said.

Almost all the bank branch of SBI and JKB are connected with outside the state banks through Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Sanchar net and other system which is down.

Thousands of SBI customers had to return disappointed after the officials refused to entertain cheques and cash.

Many customers protested against the bank after they were refused cash. A similar situation was witnessed in other branches also.

The working of two national news agencies and other media organisations, connected with internet, also suffered due to the damage in the system.

A BSNL official said there was some fault in the main network between Jammu-Samba-Pathankote since 1145 hours affecting internet and other services.

However, the BSNL official said work to repair the damaged portion on the cable was going on a war footing and the system will be restored soon.
