UP to spend Rs 450 crore on flood control this fiscal

Lucknow, July 20 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government will spend Rs 450 crore on flood protection measures in the current fiscal.

State Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Merajuddin Ahmed said Rs 54 crore was spent in 2003-04, Rs 150 crore in 2004-05 and Rs 300 crore in 2005-06 for the purpose.

About 60,000 hectare agricultural land was protected from flood water last year and it has been proposed to save one lakh hectares this year.
