Two tiger skins, pair of Elephant tusks seized in city
Chennai, July 20 (UNI) Police today seized two tiger skins and a pair of full grown elephant tusks and arrested one person in this connection near the Beach Railway station at Burma bazaar area in North Chennai today.
Police sources said the value of the tiger skins and the ivory tusks were valued at more than Rs ten lakhs.
A police party headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police P Nagarajan, accosted a 43-year-old man, who was found moving under suspicious circumstances.
Police accosted him and checked the bag carried by the man, Chandran, hailing from suburban Avadi, and seized the tiger skins and the tusks.
He was arrested under the Wildlife Protection Act and remanded in judicial custody.
Police, quoting initial investigations, said the tiger skins and the tusks were brought from Mysore.
Later, Chennai City Police Commissioner Letika Saran inspected the seized items at the Police Commissionerate and commended the police party for their good work.
