Twenty-nine hurt in British theme park accident

LONDON, July 20 (Reuters) Twenty-nine people were hurt and two evacuated by helicopter after an accident on a theme park ride in Britain today, the park said.

The front part of the Runaway Mine Train ride at Alton Towers detached from the rest of it and rolled backwards into the rear, the park said in a statement.

It said four people were taken to hospital and 25 others treated on site for cuts, bruises and minor injuries. Health and safety inspectors were investigating the incident and the ride is to remain closed. The remainder of the park stayed open.

Alton Towers in central England, one of Britain's most popular tourist attractions, is owned by theme park and attraction group Tussauds.
