Sugarcane farmers lay seige to DC office
Mysore, July 20 (UNI) Farmers of Mysore and Chamarajanagara districts today laid seige to the Deputy Commissioner's Office here for some time, demanding fixation of minimum support price for sugarcane in the State.
Farmers and organisations, including Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, Karunada Sena, Sarvodaya Karnataka and Dalitha Sagarasha Samithi, took out a procession to the Deputy Commissioner's Office and staged a demonstration. Later, they submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner S Selva Kumar, demanding a MSP of Rs 1,500 for a tonne of sugarcane and urging the Government to convene a meeting of sugarcane growers to take a final decision on the issue.
Later, the agitators withdrew their dharna.
