Srinagar, Jammu and 70 towns to get civic amenities
Srinagar, July 20 (UNI) The Srinagar and Jammu cities along with 70 towns in Jammu and Kashmir will have modernised civic amenities within the next three years under the National Urban Renewal Mission, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has announced.
He said under 90 per cent central assistant and 10 per cent state share funding pattern adopted for Jammu and Kashmir on the pattern of north-eastern states, the cities and towns in the state will have best possible roads, lanes, drains, sanitation, water and power supply, health care and other such facilities under the scheme.
''We have to go whole-hog to benefit from this opportunity, he said adding the Srinagar, Jammu cities and 70 towns in the state have been identified for massive urban development because of liberal central funding.'' The first cheque of central share amounting to Rs 8.49 crore for implementation of the scheme was received by Mr Azad.
He said massive reforms and effort are required so that civic amenities in cities alongwith rural areas are upgraded on futuristic lines for the benefit of coming generations.
