Sena leader in Legislature Assembly Ramdas Kadam arrested

Thane, July 20 (UNI) Shiv Sena leader in Maharashtra Legislature Ramdas Kadam, along with two local leaders from Thane, was today detained by the police while they were making attempt to enter the communally-sensitive powerloom town of Bhiwandi this morning.

The Thane police had prohibited the sena leaders from entering the Bhiwandi limits as they intended to press for construction of a police station in the town near the quarter gate mosque, while a section of people had opposed the move.

The police personnel were attacked by a mob that led to police firing in which two persons were killed. As a fall out of the incidence, two policemen were lynched by the furious mob. It was reported that the speech of the Samajwadi leader Abu Azmi had been unduly provocative and led to a worsening of the situaton.

After the incident the police presence was stepped up in the town. However, tension prevailed for quite some time.

The police had prohibited entry of political leaders into the town as a preventive measure and to repeat any law and order situation.

Today Shiv Sena district chief and MLA Eknath Shinde, Bhiwandi MLA Yogesh Patil, along with Mr Kadam were arrested by the police at the Mulund check post when they tried to enter the limits of the Thane police commissionerate.

They had been prohibited by the Thane police from entering the Bhiwandi limits.

They were later taken to the Wagle Estate police station after a three hour long heated exchange.
