Prof Sobti New Panjab University Vice-Chancellor

New Delhi, Jul 20 (UNI) Professor R C Sobti has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University by Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat to succeed Prof K N Pathak whose term ends on July 22, it was announced this evening.

A professor in the Department of Bio-technology, Dr Sobti will have a three year term, the announcement said.

His appointment was recommended by an expert committee headed by former Chief Justice J S Verma, and including Prof V S Vyas, former director of the Indian Institute Management, Ahmedabad and Prof K K Agarwal, vice chancellor of Guru Govind Singh Indraprasth University, Delhi as members.

Mr Shekhawat acted in his capacity as the university's Chancellor.
