Paswan favours survey on caste-religion basis in defence

Patna, July 20 (UNI) Lok Jan Shakti (LJP) President and Union Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today supported the Centre's proposal to conduct survey on a caste and religion basis in the defence services.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Paswan said the survey in defence would enable the government to make assessment on the caste-religion configurations of the armed forces.

He said the measure would help in maintaining balance between different castes and religions in their contribution for country's defence.

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan, who was present on the occasion, said he would comment on the issue only after consultations in the party.
