Order reserved in BJP MLA murder case

Allahabad, July 20 (UNI) Allahabad High Court today reserved its order in the bail application of ruling Samajwadi Party MP Afzal Ansari and his younger brother don-turned-MLA Mukhtar Ansari in the murder case of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai.

The Ansari brothers alongwith their brother-in-law Ejaz are lodged in Ghazipur district jail in connection with the murder.

The bail applications were filed in the HC after the lower court refused to grant them bail.

Justice Poonam Srivastava reserved the order today after hearing the parties at length.

Rai, an MLA from Mohammadabad assembly constituency in Ghazipur, and his seven supporters were shot dead in broad daylight in Ghazipur on November 29, 2005.

They were ambushed near the Ballia-Ghazipur border by several motorcycle-borne miscreants armed with sophisticated weapons.

Later, an FIR was lodged against 10 persons including Mukhtar, Afzal and notorious east UP gangster Munna Bajrangi in connection with the killing. Afzal surrendered in the court on December 8.
