Noted Kashmiri folk singer Ali Mohammad Sheikh passes away

Srinagar, July 20 (UNI) Sangeet Natak Academy Award winner and noted Kashmiri folk singer Ali Mohammad Sheikh passed away at Hajan in north Kashmir after a brief illness.He was above 90.

Sheikh, a very popular folk singer, represented Kashmir at National and International music festivals.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is also president of the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages has condoled the death of Mr Sheikh.

In his message, he said it was great loss to the Kashmiri society in general and music in particular.

The Secretary of the Academy Dr Rafiq Masoodi described Sheikh as doyen of Kashmiri music.

Directors of Information Department, Doordarshan Srinagar and Radio Kashmir in a joint condolence meeting condoled the demise of Sheikh.
