NASSCOM to set up Cyber Labs in Pune, B'lore, Hyd

Hyderabad, July 20: The National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) today announced that it would launch ''Cyber Labs'' in Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad to impart skills of cyber crime investigation to police personnel.

Speaking to the media here on the sidelines of ''Cyber Safety Week 2006'', NASSCOM Cyber Security and Compliance Director Nandakumar Saravade said two Cyber labs, funded by IT industry and operated jointly by the IT firms and Police, were presently in operation in Mumbai and Thane.

The labs offered six-day training programme to police personnel of the rank of sub-inspector and above.

The police personnel were taught different aspects of cyber investigation like collecting evidence and laws on cyber crimes.

Apart from this, the police would be given training on fraudulent practices prevalent in e-banking.

Mr Nandkumar said the Pune lab would soon be launched and the Bangalore lab was gearing up with help from Canara Bank.

''We are talking with SBH and Andhra Bank for funding. About Rs 40 lakhs is needed to set up each of these labs,'' he said.

Mr Nandkumar said the NASSCOM would soon launch a website ''indiacyberlab.in'' to educate the public about cyber safety.

He further added the NASSCOM was looking forward to see some changes in the legislation pertaining to cyber crimes in the coming session of the Parliament.
