Monsoon active over coastal Karnataka

Bangalore, July 20 (UNI) Following is a summary of observations recorded by the Weather Office here at 0830hrs today.

Monsoon was active over Coastal Karnataka. Rainfall occurred at a few places over Interior Karnataka.

Very Heavy Rainfall amounts(cm): Kollur 16, Karkala 15.

Heavy Rainfall amounts(cm): Mudibidre 12, Belthangadi 11, Bantwal (Dakshina Kannada dt), Udupi, Thirthahalli, Humchadakatte, Hosanagar 10 each, Puttur, Mani Mudigere, Sringeri 9 each, Nilkund, Gerusoppa, Linganamakki 8 each, Subramanya, Mangalore AP, Panambur, Bhagamandala 7 each.

Other chief rainfall amounts (cm): Sirsi, Siddapura, Honavar, Shirali, Bhatkal, Mangalore, Kammardi, Jayapura, Yellapura, Kundapur Sulya, Sakleshpura, Koppa, Sagar 5 each.

Forecast valid until Saturday morning: Rain/thundershowers likely to occur at most places over Coastal Karnataka; at many places over South Interior Karnataka and at a few places over North Interior Karnataka.

Farmers Weather Bulletin: Moderate to heavy rain likely to occur at most places over all districts of Coastal Karnataka. Light to moderate rain likely to occur at many places over ghat areas of South Interior Karnataka; at a few places over Belgaum, Haveri, Dharwad districts of North Interior Karnataka and Bellary, Davanagere districts of South Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over Gadag, Koppal districts of North Interior Karnataka and remaining districts of South Interior Karnataka. Mainly dry weather may prevail over remaining districts of North Interior Karnataka.

Heavy Rainfall Warning: Heavy rain may occur at a few places with isolated very heavy falls over Coastal Karnataka during next 24 hours. Heavy to very heavy rain may also occur at isolated places over ghat areas of South Interior Karnataka during the same period.

FISHRIES WARNING: Strong onshore winds from westerly to northwesterly direction speed occasionally reaching 45 to 55 kmph likely along off Karnataka coast during the next 24 hours.

Local forecast: Generally cloudy. Light rain in some areas.
