Meghalaya police detect 706 Bangladeshi nationals
Shillong, July 20 (UNI) Nine more suspected Bangladeshi nationals were detained by Meghalaya police here today.
The nine were detected from a bakery at Laitumkhrah locality; police said adding that they are interrogating the foreign nationals.
Police said they are still verifying their documents produced by the detained persons.
With today's detention, the number of arrested ''Bangladeshi nationals'' residing illegally in the state has shot up to 706 numbers.
Yesterday evening, the state police had detained 20 suspected Bangladeshi nationals from an Army cantonment area at Ri-Bhoi district.
However, later they were released after proper verification of their document.
In Jaintia Hills district, known for a large scale of illegal migrants concentration, the state police deported 27 ''Bangladeshi nationals'' to Asom.
The 27 ''illegal migrants'' were arrested from Khliehriat and Lad Rymbai area.
In its first anti-infiltration drive on July 16, last, the state police deported 202 ''Bangladeshi nationals'' to Asom. The 202 were detected from a ''Bangladesh colony'' here.
Meanwhile, the state police would continue with its anti-drive to check the illegal Bangladeshi migrant residing in the state.
