Maruti to expand capacity
Kolkata, Jul 20 (UNI) Leading car manufacturer Maruti Udyog Limited would ramp up production capacity in the Manesar plant near Gurgaon and work is set to start by the year end, Maruti Director (marketing&sales) Shuji Oishi said here today.
The existing plant in Gurgaon had a production capacity of 3.5 lakh units per annum, he told reporters.
The Manesar plant would initially have an annual production capacity of one lakh units per annum even as the Gurgaon plant has already overshot its capacity.
Maruti enjoys a market share of 55 per cent in the passenger car industry and plans to launch five new models in the next five years with an estimated investment of around Rs 6,200 crore.
A new car would be launched to replace the existing Zen but, however, the brand name would be retained, a company official said.
Maruti would also launch a new model in the segment between Esteem and Baleno.
Maruti today launched the New WagonR and WagonR Duo. The Duo version could run on both petrol and LPG.
