Lok Ayukta officials arrest doctor for demanding bribe
Belgaum, July 20 (UNI) A doctor, attached to the district hospital here, was today caught red handed by the Lok Ayukta officials while accepting a bribe for operating on a patient.
The doctor, M C Vijapure, demanded Rs 10,000 from a poor patient for an operation, stating that it would cost more than Rs 40,000 in private hospitals. The relatives of the patient agreed to pay the money and the doctor performed the operation. However, he threatened that post-operation treatment would suffer if the money was not paid.
Finally, the relatives agreed to pay Rs 4,000 and informed the Lok Ayukta officials, who caught the doctor red handed while accepting the bribe and arrested him.
The arrested doctor was remanded to judicial custody.
