INTACH to coordinate with Pak for conservation of Mughal gardens

Srinagar, July 20 (UNI) The Kashmir chapter of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) is coordinating with the Department of Architecture, University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan for a long-term conservation plan for Mughal Gardens in Kashmir and Shalimar Bagh in Lahore.

The conservation master plan of Shalimar Bagh, Lahore has been formulated with financial support from UNESCO and Getty Foundation, a leading international cultural and philanthropic institution based in the US.

This chapter has so far documented the cultural resource assets of the historic city of Srinagar which has been published as '' Shehr-i-Kashmir, Cultural Resource Mapping of Srinagar City '' in 5 volumes.

The Chapter has recently presented a detailed conservation plan and management guidelines on the Historic Mughal Gardens, Nishat, Shalimar and Achabal.

Meanwhile the 2-day Heritage Communication workshop, a part of the project of the Union ministeries of Culture and Human Resorce Development for creating awareness about the Cultural Heritage in various states of India began here today.

The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, Jammu and Kashmir Chapter organised the workshop in which a team of eminent resource persons from Heritage Education and Awareness Division of INTACH, Delhi are conducting the workshop.

Under this programme these workshops have been conducted in 29 cities throughout India with the aim to impart necessary training to the trainers from schools to enable them to develop and inculcate skills among students for documentation and preservation of cultural heritage in their respective areas.
