Inclusion of Dhangar Community in the ST list in Goa

Panaji, July 20 (UNI) The Goa government is pursuing the Centre for inclusion of Dhangar (Gouly) community in the Scheduled Tribes List in Goa.

In reply to a question of Chandrakant Karlekar during question hour in the State Legislative Assembly today, Social Welfare minister Subhash Shirodkar told the House that the Registrar General of India had visited Goa last month to discuss the issue with the officials.

This was following the visit of a delegation comprising Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane and the Social Welfare minister to Delhi to impress upon the Union Home minister to concede the demand.

The State government is now preparing a revised report with additional information in the subject for submission to the Union Home ministry, Mr Shirodkar added.
