Drinking water project to be implemented from November
Gulbarga, July 20 (UNI) Parts of Gulbarga, Belgaum and Hubli-Dharwad will get 24 hours drinking water from November as the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation, a State Government body, has completed 60 per cent of the pipe laying work.
Addressing a press conference here today, Corporation Managing Director Jawaid Akhtar said the scheme was taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 237 crore, for which the World Bank had sanctioned Rs 181 crore. The scheme would be executed on an experimental basis in select areas of Gulbarga, Belgaum and Hubli-Dharwad. ''If the experiment proves to be a success, it will be implemented in other parts too in a phased manner,'' he added.
He said two lakh people in 25,000 houses would be benefitted by the scheme. The consumers would be charged for the water they use, ascertained by meters.
