DPI demands Special Component Plan for SCs, STs
Chennai, July 20 (UNI) The Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) today staged a demonstration urging the DMK Government in Tamil Nadu to implement the Special Component Plan for the SCs and STs and the Adi Dravidar assistance scheme to improve their economic condition.
Abvout 300 DPI activists participated in the agitation, held in front of the Chennai Collectorate here.
Addressing the agitators, DPI General Secretary Thol Thirumavalavan demanded that the DMK goverment must earmark necessary funds under the scheme in the state budget to be presented in the Assembly on July 22.
Recalling the poll promises made to this effect by the DMK, Mr Thirumavalavan said there was no sign of this scheme being implemented by the government.
The agitation was to draw the state Government's attention to implement it immediately by allocating funds in the budget.
