CPI opposes separate Telangana state
Vijayawada, July 20 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today reasserted that it would not support the formation of a separate Telangana state.
Talking to UNI here, CPI state secretary K Narayana said the party had not adopted any resolution at its Chandigarh meeting not to oppose the Telangana demand as claimed by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) supremo and Union Labour Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao.
''TRS president cannot decide our party's policy matters'', he said. The party, in its letter submitted to the sub-comittee constituted by the UPA government on Telangana, had only asked for the release of a package of Rs.10,000 crore for the development of the region, he added.
Mr Narayana said, the party had also sought the implementation of Government Order 610 which provides for the repatriation of employees of other regions working in Telangana. The CPI demanded the constitution of a regional development board and formation of an expert committee to evolve a scientific solution for the Telangana issue, he added.
Replying to a question, Dr Narayana clarified that his party had not informed the sub-committee that it would support the bill for carving out a separate Telangana state.
