Coir Board Chairman nominated as Board of Trade member
Kochi, Jul 20 (UNI) Coir Board Chairman A C Jose has been nominated as a member of the Board of Trade by the Union Commerce Ministry, the first time that a Commodity Board Chief has been nominated to the highest policy making body of the Ministry.
The Board of Trade was set up by the Central Government in 2004 when the Foreign Trade Policy was unveiled for the period 2004-09.
The Body, which has a permanent Secretariat, advises the central government on various policy initiatives regarding foreign trade.
The Board, reconstituted on July 17, has 30 non-official members and 10 official members. Noted industrialist Kumara Mangalam Birla is its present Chairman, a Coir Board release said here today.
Mr Jose's inclusion in the board is expected to boost the agro-based industries in Kerala, especially the coir sector.
