CM directs officials to check malpractices in Transport dept
Hyderabad, Jul 20 (UNI)Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today directed the officials to take all possible measures to curb irregularities and malpractices in the Transport department.
Making these observations while reviewing the performance of the department in his chambers in the Secretariat, the Chief Minister said drunken driving should be dealt with seriously and the driver punished severely.
Dr Reddy said cases should be booked on irresponsible drivers carrying more than specified passengers, overload of the carriages should be sternly dealt with and police would be empowered to book them under cognizable offence.
He said all necessary and foolproof measures should be initiated to discourage corruption in the issuance of driving and fitness certificates.
Minister for Transport K Lakshmi Narayana and other senior officials participated in the meeting.
