CLP urges Christians not to resort to agitation on 'Da Vinci'
Hyderabad, July 20 (UNI) Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today opposed the screening of the controversial English film ''The Da Vinci Code, and called upon the Christian community at large not to resort to any agitation in the wake of the Court order to release the film tomorrow.
Talking to newspersons here, CLP member Christine Lazarus said though the Andhra Pradesh government banned the screening of the controversial film in the State, the Court directed the screening from July 21.
''It is unfortunate that the Court failed to take the sentiments of Christian community into consideration. The Christian community is upset over the release of the film. I am of the opinion there may be some trouble. Hence I call upon the Christian community, which is opposing the screening of the film to refrain from resorting to any untoward incident. We have to abide by the law of the land,'' she explained.
Commenting on the film, Ms Lazarus said that the film is not based on facts. She said the Gospel of Christ is at stake. ''I have gone through some pages of the novel Da Vinci Code. The novel is very offensive. We Christians are ready to die for our faith. I wish the State government takes some steps so that the film can be withdrawn from theatres at the earliest'', she added.
