CII urges TN Govt to focus on infrastructure
Chennai, July 20 (UNI) The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today urged the Tamil Nadu Government to focus on infrastructure to create Manufacturing and Satellite Hubs, Export-cum-Service Hubs, Knowledge, and Tourism Corridors in the Southern Districts.
It also urged the Government to create 25 rpt 25 new clusters for industries, such as, Textiles and Automobile across the State.
CII Tamil Nadu Chairman Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu said the CII in its Pre-Budget proposals to the Government, had identified huge potential for Madurai to emerge as a manufacturing Hub with Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram and Tirunelveli as Satellite Hubs, Tuticorin as Export-cum-Service Hub, Madurai, Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar as Knowledge Corridors and Madurai, Kanniyakumari and Ramanathapuram as Tourism Corridors.
The development of these industrial hubs and corridors in the State, would spur rapid industrial growth, he added.
The key infrastructure projects to be taken up by the State included the development of Tuticorin port, six-lane connectivity between the manufacturing and export hubs, IT Park in Madurai and developing key satellite industries.
CII believed that these infrastructure development projects, would give major thrust to the growth of automobile, textiles, rubber, ITES-BPO, and tourism sector in Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Sivagangai, Virudhunagar and Tuticorin.
Further, the Government could take advantage of the natural cluster formation such as the fabrication cluster in Trichy, textile processing and chemicals in Cuddalore, foundry and auto component in Coimbatore, rubber and auto component in Madurai.
There was also a potential to create 25 new industry and region specific clusters.
