Cabinet clears cultural cooperation agreement with Ireland
New Delhi, July 20 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today approved the agreement on cultural cooperation with Ireland, signed earlier this year.
Briefing mediapersons after the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi said the agreement was signed on January 19, by Union Culture and Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy and Ireland's Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism John O'Donoghue.
The agreement will come into force on the date of exchange of instruments of ratification. It will remain in force for a period of five years and will be renewed automatically thereafter for further periods of five years each unless either of the contracting party gives a written notice to terminate it, six months prior to its lapse, he said.
Mr Dasmunsi said the broad agreement provides a framework to develop activities of mutual cooperation in cultural relations, art, archaeology, education, including activity in the fields of science and technology, public health, mass media, tourism, sports and games in order to contribute towards a better knowledge of their respective cultures and activities in these fields. The agreement envisages visits, on reciprocal basis, of academicians, artists, sportsmen and journalists and exchange of art exhibitions and dance and music creations.
