Bangladeshi smugglers beat BSF jawan

Balurghat, July 20 (UNI) A BSF personnel was beaten by Bangladeshi smugglers when he crossed over to their territory while chasing them from the Indian side at Chakgopal village in West Bengal's South Dinajpur district today.

BSF Commanding Officer R P S Malik said at least 30 Bangladeshis were smuggling garments along the Indo-Bangla border here when BSF jawans chased them before they entered Bangladesh.

Once there, BSF jawan Rajesh Kumar was lashed by the smugglers in front of BDR personnel. He was seriously injured and admitted to a local hospital here.

The smugglers also seized his rifle along with 15 rounds of ammunition, Mr Malik said.

Senior officials rushed to the spot but BDR personnel fired seven rounds, forcing the BSF to reached with three.

The BSF and BDR later held a flag meeting to bring the situation under control.

Meanwhile, the BSF have posted five hundred extra jawans in the border area as a precautionary measure.
