Attack on cop: SP MLA released on bail

Bahraich, July 20 (UNI) A local court today released Samajwadi Party MLA from Mahsi assembly constituency Dilip Kumar Verma on bail.

On July 17, the local MLA was arrested and sent to judicial custody by special Sessions Judge M C Jain till August 2 in the case of an assault on a policeman.

On November 14, 1995, Mr Verma had made an attempt on the life of police constable Shiv Sahai and also made derogasory remarks against the constable, a Dalit.

Later, a case was registered against the MLA at the Dargah Sharif police station here.

The court issued several summons to him for case hearings, but he ignored all of them. Consequently, the court declared the SP leader 'absconding' and ordered the attachment of his property.
