Water project on the pipeline to solve Kolar's water crisis
Kolar Gold Fields, Karnataka, July 19 (UNI) In a bid to solve the acute water crisis in the parched Kolar district, a Rs 188 crore Centrally-sponsored mega water project was on the cards.
The project, for which Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy would lay the foundation stone on July 28, encompassed construction of a 33-m-high composite dam across river Markandeya near Yargol village in Bangarpet taluk with a storage capacity of 787 TMC.
When implemented, the scheme, to be executed by the Bethamangala Water Supply and Sewerage Board, would provide potable water to four or five taluks.
The project would have check dams at 45 villages across the planned distribution distance between Yaragol village to Kolar via Bangarpet and Malur.
