UP waives interest on loans to weavers

Lucknow, July 19 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today announced full waiver of interest on loans given to weavers in the state.

Addressing a weavers' and handicraftsmen meeting here, state handloom minister Jagdish Singh Rana said the government was serious towards the plight of people associated with the sector.

''We have also made a provision for power supply to weavers like farmers,'' he added.

The minister maintained that farmers, small scale industries and weavers were contributing almost 90 per cent to the country's development.

''We have also reconstituted the UP Handloom Corporation and the same process is on for UPICA,'' he informed.
