UKD to oppose inaguration of Tehri Dam on July 30.

Dehradun, July 19 (UNI) The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal has announced to protest the proposed inaugural function of Tehri Dam project on July 30 if motorway atop Dam is not opened for general traffic and rehabilitation of Tehri oustees is incomplete.

''Construction of the Dam has increased the distances and the prices of essential commodities have soared besides many Dam oustees are yet to receive compensation,'' UKD President Kashi Singh Airy told reporters here yesterday. He said till these problems are properly addressed, UKD would not allow inauguration of the Dam. Mr Airy further lambasted the Congress government in the state for not fulfilling its announcements of financial aid to accident victims and said, ''Not a single accident victim has got financial aid so far''. He further espoused 27 per cent reservation for castes other than SCs and STs, saying inception of the state was basically fought for the reservation.

Expressing his displeasure over the proposed delimitation of Vidhan Sabha Constituencies on population basis, he said 85 per cent of the state included hilly area and inception of the state was done considering its geographical condition. ''It is not fair now that delimitation was done on the basis of population,'' he said, adding even reduction of a single seat from hilly areas would not be tolorated. He alleged that Delimitation Commission comprised of Congress or BJP members and it was a conspiracy against UKD as they have better hold in hilly areas where population is scarce.

Criticising the Congress government on increasing unemployment and migration of youths from the state, Mr Airy demanded white paper on the details of employment provided by the government to the youths of the state as per its claim. ''In fact the Government has not chalked out any employment policy till now,'' he said, adding '' and if at all, in future naxalite movements raise its head here it will not be a surprise''.
