Tension prevails as timber merchant stabbed to death
Madikeri, Karnataka, July 19 (UNI) A timber merchant was today stabbed to death with a bill hook in broad daylight at Chettalli, 16 km from here, leading to tension in the area.
Police said C P Moidu, a resident of Kandakeri near Chettalli, was asked by someone over phone to meet him at Abyala around 1400 hrs. When Moidu went there alone, he was brutally attacked with a bill hook and thrown on the road in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the Madikeri hospital with grievous injuries. However, he breathed his last while being shifted to a hospital in Mangalore.
Elaborate security was arranged in the area as rumours were afloat that Moidu was murdered by a person belonging to another community. Superintendent of Police Ramachandra Rao and Deputy Superintendent of Police Shetty rushed to the spot.
