Rain forces diversion, cancellation and delay of several trains

Kolkata, Jul 19 (UNI) The 3151 Up Jammu-Tawi express was cancelled and some other trains either diverted or delayed following today's heavy rains.

Train services to and from Kolkata terminal were disrupted since early morning. There was about waist-deep water on the railway track near Chitpur South cabin (Ultadanga) and as a result 3151 Up Jammu-Tawai Express and 107 UP Lalgola passenger had to be cancelled.

The 5049 up Kolkata-Gorakhpur Express left Sealdah at 1445 hrs instead of Kolkata station at 1245 hrs.

The 3111 Up Lalquila Express will leave Sealdah at 2300 hrs instead of its scheduled departure at 2010 hrs from Kolkata.

Consequently, three trains, including 5048 Dn Purbanchal Express, 3112 Dn Lalquila Express, 3152 Dn Jammu Tawai Express, were brought to Sealdah insted of Kolkata station today.

The 3151 Up Jammu Tawai Express will leave from Sealdah station at 1145 hrs tomorrow instead of Kolkata station.

Circular train services were also badly affected due to water logging on the tracks in several places, ER sources said.

Meanwhile, many parts of the city were waterlogged and rubber boats pressed into service to evacuate many residents in Amherst street in central Kolkata.

Rain also forced many schools in the city to suspend classes for the day and city's IT hub Salt lake was also marooned. At least seven water pumps were pressed into service to drain out water in Sector five in Salt lake.
