Principal secy to submit report on Shirdi Saibaba Sanshan Trust
Mumbai, July 19 (UNI) The Bombay High Court has asked the State Principal Secretary to submit a report by September 20 in response to a petition challenging the takeover of the Shirdi Saibaba Sansthan Trust by the State Government.
Jagdish Daswani had filed a public interest litigation challenging the State Government's decision to take over the functioning of the trust and appoint its own trustees.
The PIL came up for hearing today before a division bench comprising justices R M Lodha and N H Patil.
The petitioner submitted before the court that the trustees appointed by the State Government were not entitled to the appointments.
There are certain criteria to be fulfilled for becoming a trustee -- the trustee has to be a devotee, a resident of Maharashtra and should have no criminal record. However, some of the trustees, who have been appointed, are from Delhi and some even had criminal records, the petitioner has alleged.
