PG teachers on 3 day casual leave

Aizawl, July 19: The Mizoram Post Graduate Teachers' Association (MPGTA) started a three-day mass casual leave strike from today to protest the state government's alleged violation of recruitment rules.

The MPGTA has alleged that the state government filled up all vacant principal posts directly with headmasters of secondary and higher secondary schools which is against the principal recruitment rules.

According to the rules, the principal's posts are to be filled up 50 per cent from vice principals and 50 per cent from headmasters, having a masters degree and five years regular service in the grade, the PG teachers said.

The MPGTA has repeatedly requested the government to revoke the relaxation in favour of the headmaster notification but in vain.

The government has also been accused of refusing to fill up three vacant vice principal posts, thereby preventing many PG teachers from being promoted to vice principal post.

The MPGTA also requested amendment of recruitment rules for vice principals, insisting that the vice-principal posts be filled up 100 per cent by promotion from PG teachers. However, the Education department has made a proposal to divide the posts fifty-fifty between trained PG teachers and trained graduate teachers.

The PG teachers strongly objected to the proposal, stating that graduate teachers should not be placed on the same level with them.

The PG teachers would decide their future course of action if the three-day agitation yields no positive results.
