MK urges PM to permit Haj pilgrimage for all Muslims

Chennai, July 19 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to permit all Muslims who had applied to undertake Haj pilgrimage from the State.

In a letter to Dr Singh, he said though 4,990 Musilms from Tamil Nadu had applied for the pilgrimage, the Centre had allowed only 2,461 people to undertake Haj this year.

As many as 2,829 did not get the opportunity, he said and urged the Centre to permit all of them to undertake the pilgrimage.

Mr Karunanidhi had also written a similar letter to Union Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed, an official release said today.
