Mizoram BSNL to provide 25,000 mobile connections

Aizawl, Jul 19 (UNI) Soon after Airtel's launch in Mizoram, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced that it would be providing 25,000 new mobile connections here.

BSNL Officials here today stated that initially about 5000 connections would be provided this month and the remaning would be given in a phased manner.

They also added that they have a challenging target of providing more than 20,000 mobile connections by the end of 2006 at Rs 20 crores, up from the existing 35,000 connections.

About 31 new BTS (towers) have been erected across the state to meet the increasing demand.

There is also a proposal to increase the capacity of the Wireless and Local Loop (WLL) to meet the clarity of mobile reach even at remote parts of the state.

The officials also stated that the 12 small exchange connectivity around the state has been replaced by digital media for better clarity of communication and the existing digital microwave system (DMW) in the other exchanges would be upgraded to 32 megabyte.

BSNL task force sources also added that once the Optic Fibre Cable (OFC) laying work is over, the mobile and land connectivity to the other cities and state would be much clearer.

Besides this, there would be a one hundred per cent increase in internet connections in the state.
