Meghalaya CM to meet Asom CM on border issue
Shillong, Jul 19 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister J D Rymbai today said he would soon meet his Asom counter-part Tarun Gogoi to discuss on the inter-state border issue.
The meeting between the two Chief Ministers is likely to be after the Asom's Budget session.
'' We will have to sit across the table with Gogoi to discuss on the Block I&II areas after the Asom Budget session, '' Mr Rymbai said.
Talking to newsmen after the Joint Action Co-Ordination Committee served an ultimatum to resolve the inter-state border issue by August 10 next, Mr Rymbai said he would study the JACC memorandum and sought the latest report from his officials on this vexed issue.
Mr Rymbai also informed that he would soon convened a meeting with Home Minister Robert G Lyngdoh, government officials and the JACC to discuss on the issue.
However, the Chief Minister refused to comment, when asked whether Block I and II falls under the Meghalaya or Asom administration.
The JACC had been demanding from the state government to asked Asom government to re-transfer Block I&II areas which is under Asom administration to Meghalaya.
The two Blocks were ''transferred'' from the then United Khasi&Jaintia Hills and then tagged with the then Mikir Hills of Assam for better administration.
In the past, Chief Ministers of Asom and Meghalaya had met on several occasions decided to maintain a status quo on the inter-state border issue.
