Maruti launches LPG-petrol WagonR at no extra cost

New Delhi, July 19: Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) today launched the all new fuel-efficient WagonR, functional on both petrol and LPG, providing additional features, like the sporty box-less look, without a change in the price tag.

The market leader in passenger cars, unveiled the Duo Wagon R Lx and Lxi variants, with the ex-showroom price in Delhi at Rs 3,40,106 and Rs 3,68,160 respectively. Both these variants run on alternate fuels of petrol and LPG, claiming a fuel efficiency of 10 per cent from the previous versions.

''As an introductory offer, the new WagonR will be available without any change in prices. But we will soon revise the prices, depending on the demand,'' MUL MD Jagdish Khattar said at a glittering launch ceremony here.

Mr Khattar appeared on the launch dias, driving the new look variant flanked by fashion models, adding glitz to the function.

Mr Khattar assured the media that the new A2 segment car fitted with a Japanese LPG kit, is safe and enjoys certification from the Department of Explosives.

''The car is tested and certified by the Automotive Research Association of India. Thus WagonR Duo will provide customers with lower-running cost to the extent of 33 per cent, without the safety risk associated with the unapproved LPG kits,'' Mr Khattar said.

The new WagonR has been styled and designed entirely by Indian engineers at the Maruti facility, after their success in designing and developing the popular 'Swift'.

The car has a fuel capacity of 35 litres in the petrol tank and 22 litres in the LPG kit, giving a total mileage of 700 kms.

Available in a total of eight colours, with five new colours added to the list, the car will start rolling out from the dealers showroom today itself.

About the availability of LPG, the company MD said, ''While the national capital has 16 outlets of the clean fuel, its availability in improving throughout the country.''
