Gulbarga, July 19 (UNI) The Karnataka State Minorities Commission today urged the State Government to allot Rs 500 crore for providing facilities to minorities and sought statutory powers for the body.

Addressing a press conference here, Commission Chairman Alhaj K C Mohammed Masoor said the Commission would submit a report to the Government in October next, seeking judicial powers for the Commission equivalent to that of a civil court.

He appealed to the Government to allocate 30 per cent of the funds under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan to Urdu schools and appoint 200 teachers in those schools.

Mr Masoor said a book, 'Department-wise beneficary oriented schemes', detailing the various schemes implemented by the Government for the benefit of minorities in the State, would be made available to the people through all libraries, even in rural areas.
