IG removed after Lokayukta objection

Bhopal, July 19 (UNI) In the wake of an objection by Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta Ripusudan Dayal, the Lokayukta Special Police Establishment's Inspector-General Mahan Bharat was transferred to Police Headquarters today, an official source said.

A laptop allotted to Mr Bharat, in his capacity as IG (Hoshangabad Range), had been personally retained by the officer for about seven months and he allegedly did not respond to Police HQ letters in that regard.

Following the Lokayukta's intervention, Mr Bharat returned the computer. Mr Dayal urged the state government to shift the officer from the Establishment.

''The Lokayukta institution is a high-level investigating agency that probes matters linked with ministers and senior IAS officers.

In such a situation, an official whose integrity is doubtful should not be posted here,'' wrote Mr Dayal.
